Alan Abel, Hoaxter Extraordinaire

The lifelong thorn in the fleshy, exposed side of the media speaks to Gelf.

Jake Rake

Tonight, Alan Abel is a 78-year-old man who has scheduled an interview to take place in the middle of the night. The interview has been arranged by Abel’s friend and publicist Bruce Spencer, who in my mind serves as the Dr. Gonzo to Abel’s Raoul Duke. It has been a busy week for Abel, Spencer reports, with the interview following an appearance on the nationally syndicated NPR show, On The Media. When I reach Abel, he is affable and loquacious, and immediately jumps into the story of why Walter Cronkite hates him.

You may be amused, and not surprised, to know that in the 1960s Alan Abel appeared on the Amazing Randi radio show at midnight on WOR AM. He represented SINA and was part of a panel with other odd characters. The show was the funniest thing I've ever heard. He also had a recording about SINA on LP vinyl. The album cover had a cartoon of a horse wearing boxer's shorts.

Jake Rake (I can't believe that is his real name), or whoever he is, has written a very concise and definitive article about my assorted...and sordid...allegorical satires on the world stage, using the media as a conduit to the public, my audience. My appreciation for those who'se first language is English and were able to read this review. And a special thanks to "Jake the Rake." Alan Abel
