The NBA draft is over, and now it's time for every columnist worth his salt to make fun of the Knicks and Isiah Thomas. In particular, many writers have criticized the drafting of Renaldo Balkman, a relatively unknown forward from South Carolina who impressed scouts during workouts. But Balkman was projected in most mock drafts as a second-round pick at best, so when Thomas selected him with the Knicks' first pick (of two) in the first round, he was basically chumming the editorial waters. But what to write?

Weirdly, many came to the same relatively obscure conclusion: Renaldo Balkman's name sounds a lot like that of Rolando Blackman, a former NBA All-Star (and Knick) who retired 12 years ago. (Blackman's now an assistant coach with the Mavericks.) So, wink wink, maybe the Knicks actually meant to draft him.

On ESPN, the Sports Guy writes, "Who's going to be the first one to make the obligatory 'Is it possible that Isiah thought he was taking Rolando Blackman?' joke. Screw it, I'll do it."

He's probably not the first, and he's certainly not the only one.

Gothamist titled their post about the draft, "Maybe they meant to pick Rolando Blackman."

Sticking with the Gawker family, Deadspin quotes a bit from Father Knickerbocker: "My take: Darius Miles isn't even that good! And we got the POOR MAN'S Darius Miles? At least his name kinda sounds like that of a former Knick (Rolando Blackmon). Ok, just shoot me and get it over with."

(And Father Knickerbocker, don't feel bad about misspelling Blackman's name. The Washington Post did the same thing earlier this month.)

Mitch Lawrence of the New York Daily News weighs in with, "Renaldo Balkman looks very much like a typo for Rolando Blackman, but it's not a mistake. The error was on the part of Thomas, who could have traded down 20 more picks and still found Balkman in the second round."

The NYDN was so impressed with this witticism that they used it again in a graphic accompanying another story. "WHO IS THIS GUY?
