1. How many sketch-comedy festivals have you performed at? Triplette has performed sketch comedy at The Chicago Improv Festival (2004 & 2005), Chicago Sketchfest (2005) and at the LAUGH! Benefit (2005). We've also performed improv at a few other festivals. We began doing improv first and did that for the first year of forming as a trio. 2. Who are you looking forward to seeing at the festival? We're looking forward to seeing TROOP from Los Angeles. I saw a short show of theirs while they were in Chicago for the 2004 Chicago Improv Festival, but missed their full-length show. I hear they are amazing and was really disappointed when I found out they had to cancel their appearance at Chicago Sketchfest this year. So, they're a real draw for me. Personally, I'm also really exciting to see what Killing My Lobster does. I've only been to their websitethey are quite prolific and have been around a long time. 3. Besides yourself, who's the best sketch comedy group in the U.S. today? That's a hard question. Because Triplette hasn't been "on the scene" that long, I don't know if we can really make an official statement. I think after this festival, though, we'll have a chance to see 18 of the best groups in the nation, and that will be really exciting. Sketchfest NYC is bringing together sketch comedy groups with different missions and styles, which is great. I think sketch comedy is evolving and you see elements of so many other disciplines in it nowthere are groups doing sketches like we're used to seeing on SNL, and then there are groups who are really experimenting with performance art, movement, music, puppets, masks, silence, and mime. To pick one group that is the "best" would be hard. There's something for everyone to love. But I must say, I recently discovered the DVDs of "French and Saunders" from Britain. They are two of the funniest women in comedy and their work is some of the best I've seen, but they're not from the U.S... 4. Please give an example of something you think is funny. Dakota Fanningbecause she's a better actor at the age of 10 than most of her co-stars. She's amazingly funny and brilliant in Uptown Girls. Everyone should see that movie. 5. What can viewers expect from your show? Triplette's shows span a range of styles and themes and feature scenes with masks, puppets, original music and some very bizarre ideas. We move quickly from scene to scene and commit 100% to some super strange characters. We pride ourselves on our ability to portray interesting relationships and characters, people you'd swear you knew and some you hope to never meet. We also like to push the envelope on issues that get a little more political, whether it be about gender, sexuality, race or soul-eating (you'll see). |
