Jon Monastero and Stephen Simon write:
1. How many sketch-comedy festivals have you performed at? We've performed at six (counting NY 2005) sketch-comedy festivals. The LA Fest of Sketch 2003, 2004; Chicago Sketchfest 2004, 2005; Sketchfest Seattle 2004. We hope to perform in at least three to six more as to keep our sketch festival appearances at a number divisible by three. 2. Who are you looking forward to seeing at the festival? We look forward to seeing every group at the festival. That's very diplomatic and noncontroversial of us to say and it goes with our family-oriented comedic sensibility. We never use the F-word in any of our shows while on stage. Really though, there are a lot of groups in the line-up that we've not seen and we look forward to checking them out. 3. Besides yourself, who's the best sketch comedy group in the U.S. today? We've seen a lot of great sketch groups from around the U.S. Not everybody is able to perform at every festival, and of groups not attending NYC we love Kaspar Hauser from San Francisco, Defiant Thomas Brothers from Chicago, and Bald Faced Lie from Seattle to name a few. We're huge fans of quite a few of the groups performing in N.Y. this June and again, we're excited to see lots of new (to us) groups on stage at the UCB Theater. 4. Please give an example of something you think is funny. Troop's "red pens" sketch is really funny. We love Cold War humor. We also love the comedic stylings of Eddie Izzard and Bill Irwin and Buster Keaton and Charlie Chaplin and the song and dance scene from Young Frankenstein is hysterical. We think a lot of things are funny except the F-word. We really don't think the F-word is funny at all. 5. What can viewers expect from your show? Viewers at our show can expect an original take on sketch comedy that we stole from a variety of sources old and new. |
