The Conventioneers II

Gelf's podcasters join the GOP in Saint Paul.

Michael Myser and Merrill Freund

In Gelf Magazine's weekly podcast, The Hack and The Flack, journalist Michael Myser—the hack—and PR guru Merrill Freund—the flack—break down the news of the week. From their different perspectives, Michael and Merrill discuss sports, tech, and media—much like Gelf.

In this week's episode, Michael and Merrill enjoy Novak Djokovic's villainy, marvel at the Republicans' anti-elitist message, and savor the joys of nothingness. That's all in this week’s Gelf Magazine podcast.

On that 90% (I think it's 95, actually) figure - while I do believe it is indicative of McCain's politics, I think it's sort of disingenuous to claim that it means he'll be Bush term three. Senate votes are so arcane and frequently involve such weird, trivial things, that you can twist them to mean almost anything - witness how every Democratic nominee magically becomes the "most liberal senator," or how Kerry voted to raise taxes 128 times or some such number. So I take any such figures with a grain of salt.

Of course, you can make a very strong case that McCain will too close to Bush for comfort (though I do think he'd at least a small improvement, which isn't really saying much), but the 90% thing is really only a very small part of that case.

Funny you mention the Djokovic impressions of Nadal and Sharapova. For that brief glimpse into his character, I became a huge fan.
