Teddy Bear Update

Crazies' advocates not crazy for "crazy for you."

Carl Bialik

In a prior item on Vermontteddybear.com, I neglected to mention a brewing controversy over the company's "Crazy For You" bear. The crazy concept behind the $70 bear: It was straitjacketed and came with a commitment report. Commitment—get it? Mental-health advocates didn't find the bears funny, and complained—addressing a major priority in the field: offensive stuffed animals. The company kept selling the bears 'til they sold out. Now CEO Elisabeth Robert resigned her seat on the board of Vermont hospital Fletcher Allen Health Care, as reported by the Vermont Guardian.

My main question: The company's CEO is a woman? Wow. That puts the TV ads I'd mentioned in a new light.
