The Affairs

Gelf's podcasters tear Edwards a new one.

Michael Myser and Merrill Freund

In Gelf Magazine's weekly podcast, The Hack and The Flack, journalist Michael Myser—the hack—and PR guru Merrill Freund—the flack—break down the news of the week. From their different perspectives, Michael and Merrill discuss sports, tech, and media—much like Gelf.

In this week's episode, Michael and Merrill knock John Edwards, and his PR handlers; commend Circuit City's deft apology; and follow Favre to New Jersey. That's all in this week’s Gelf Magazine podcast.

The Edwards affair is hilarious to me. I've always thought he was kind of a scumbag. Maybe it's just my intrinsic mistrust of slick-talking Southerners, but still.

If you remember his term in the Senate, he was a very centrist, DLC type. I remember hearing that Clinton favored his bid in '04, and he originally ran a centrist campaign. Then, all of a sudden, when he realized that wasn't going to work, he decided there were "Two Americas," and he's been harping on that, perpetually running for President, ever since. If you think back on his political history, the idea that he would have a duplicitous private life is no surprise.
