The party got started late, around 9:30, and didn't get really happenin' 'til after 10. Because of the large Gelf Magazine banner in the background, the question of the night among guests and bar regulars was, "What is Gelf?" This will be decided soon in a series of T-shirts that will be made available on the Gelf website.

At its peak, the party consisted of 60 Gelfites -- and several dozen wannabees. The bar's addition of an extra bartender was well worth it, as the beer flowed like the salmon to Capistrano.

The many tiny candles that were brought and spread out proved useful as the entire bar went dark around midnight. The power never came back on, and we were forced to drink and party by candlelight.

No power outages made for a good, long party; smooth sailing; and a shorter report. Gelfites owned the bocce-ball alley, the jukebox and an entire corner of this cavernous space. Guests traveled from exotic locales like Mississippi, London, Boston, and Philadelphia for the event.
